About The Artwork

Our landscape is littered with the remains of our industrial past and pointers to our future. The Bennerly Viaduct sits just outside the old English mining town of Ilkeston and once carried coal trains across the Erewash valley to power the nearby iron works. Abandoned since the 1920s, it has recently been restored by local volunteers. The valley, once a hindrance to the coal industry, now funnels wind to the solitary turbine which provides clean, renewable energy to nearby houses. On a cold and wet winter's day I was on the search for images for a project documenting the fate of the regions' post-industrial towns. Many of which seemed to be in a perpetual state of decline where the only places which seem to flourish are the mandatory Greggs bakeries and Wetherspoon's pubs. Much of my imagery was depressing and I had given up for the day when my drive home took me past the viaduct and turbine. This is what I had been looking for! An image which reflects the industrial past without the negativity of decline. So I ran through a muddy field looking for exactly the right spot before the brief gap in the clouds disappeared and ruined the light. This custom print is printed with Mimaki UV inks on FSCĀ®-certified paper from sustainable sources. It is art that will retain it's impact years to come. 48 x 32 inches (120 x 80 cm)

Shipping & Returns

Delivery Time:Typically 5-7 business days for domestic shipments, 10-14 business days for international shipments.

A lot of my work focuses on the intersection of politics, people and place. For all my life I've lived and worked in Nottingham, forming an intimate bond with the place as it and I continually change. It is out on the streets that I find myself feeling most at home, walking among a myriad of stories and memories. I'm drawn to political events, the numerous rallies and marches of political campaigns. Sometimes tiny affairs protesting the closure of community centre and occasionally mass demonstrations where it seems half the city is on the streets. Whether it is on the streets or back in my studio, I look for the unusual, creating images which suggest a story for the viewer to complete.
