About The Artwork

Spiders and tiny snails live in my winter garden. On the way from leaf to leaf, the snails often take shortcuts over spider webs. There they leave traces of slime that glisten in bright colors in the sunlight. Just like soap bubbles, the colors are created by interference. Light waves that are reflected on the front and back of the thin layer are superimposed. Depending on the inclination and wavelength (color), two reflected waves can cancel or reinforce each other. The colors that have not been deleted are superimposed on the visible mixed colors. The catch threads of the nets have glue points at intervals of approx. 0.1 mm. The snail's slime trail covers these points and changes its inclination. This means that more light is reflected towards the camera. Fine art print 308 g / m² 40 cm x 60 cm.

I live in a small village in Schleswig-Holstein (Germany) 12 km from the Baltic Sea and spend many hours by the sea or in beautiful “Holstein Switzerland”. My photographic interest is in the wonders and beauties of nature that have to do with physics in the broadest sense. With that I move in the field of tension between aesthetics, art and science. The physical gaze draws attention to astonishing phenomena that otherwise remain easily hidden because of their "inconspicuousness", such as the colors of spider webs, the colors of the sea or fata morgana effects on the horizon. Explanation and scientific-historical classification of phenomena lead to a deeper experience for me. I would like to share this happiness with others through my photos and explanations. I used many of my nature photos in schoolclass and experienced how children and young people who were rather negative about physics found access to physics. The photos have also been incorporated into school books and teacher training lectures. Now, after my retirement, I have intensified my preoccupation with photos and I am making it public with exhibitions and on social media.
