About The Artwork

This pieces a continuation from the series, Desert Scapes in the Secret Desert. Almost all of these desert and cloud scapes were taken in Mimbres, New Mexico of the Gila Wilderness. If They appear surreal, this is accentuated due to the fact that I shot almost this entire series in a Global Warming induced Heat Wave, where all of the images appear as surreal as the illusion of the added clouds and water featured in the reflective series. During this shoot, I was suffering from heat stroke, so the images mirror my very heat stroke induced, surreal state. Global Warming is here to stay, as we know we are in the most serious crises of our generation, and if we refuse to change, all of our deserts, the tropics, the arctic and our oceans will be uninhabitable until we make epic efforts to change the ways we inhabit our planet.

Hello, I am an exhibiting artist, photographic educator and activist. My full bio can be seen on my Saatchi profile page and on my website. I am an award winning photo based artist and I’ve had the good fortune to be included in several critically acclaimed solo and group exhibitions including the National Museum of Women in the Arts sponsored by the Smithsonian Museum of Women Artists. Some of my solo exhibits include The Museum of Fine Art of New Mexico in Santa Fe. Raised between Berkeley, California and Rural Mississippi ( I am a Native American Artist) the disparity of the haves and have nots has deeply informed my work as a result of growing up in two very polarized worlds of radical and political Berkeley in the 70’s and very rural, racist and poor Mississippi. I am an activist dedicated to the civil rights and liberty’s of Women, immigrants, and all people of color who are suffering under a sickening and very dangerous administration. My work deals with global warming, despite the fact that the work is visually very beautiful it has a larger subtext which explores just how imperative and urgent our need for immediate reform because as we all know by now we are facing the most serious consequences of the inconvenient truth of global warming! Also I am a yoga teacher and the founder of Native Flow Yoga where I will be teaching workshops throughout the winter on the Big Island of Hawaii, I am hoping to add photography workshops and island tours as well. Please feel free to contact me and visit my websites any time. Thanks so much for looking at my work as it means so much to me! Om Shanti and Shaka! Camille Ross
