STATEMENT BY RAUL URBINA: Creating stories from each single image, searching through the different realities which surround it, whether they're inherent or from somewhere else. Places where the visual creation is subordinate to the written work, forming a poetic inventory of our time which acts as a solid base in Raul Urbina's work. The result is a series of small visual poetic creations, all open to the viewer's own interpretation of them. The titles of each work, in many cases, form part of the short poems written within that same creative process, in some cases in the same place and at the same moment. "On many occasions, when I shoot I'm thinking of the title of the work and this serves as a point of reference for me." The tale which Urbina weaves casts aside the formal aspect in order to show the creator's sensitivity at the moment of approaching the personalities, places and objects which surround him. I studied History at the Autónoma University of Madrid, but soon chose the path of becoming a self-taught photographer. I focus my work to explore ideas about concepts of place, identity, memory, history ... start from daily live and explore the road between reality and fiction. “His works are conceived on the basis of certain initial rational approaches, in which the camera or the formal photographic result is not the only ultimate objective, but a means to engaging in an open narrative in which multiple interpretations are possible. Behind his photographs is an endeavour to reclaim what is real, to explore the network of relationships existing around us and to position the city as the primary object of investigation and artistic practice. Urbina is a photographer who seeks to collect his own dreams and everything that we never see because we are, or think we are, too used to seeing it. Such photographic endeavour is a challenging task, and by no means purposeless. It encourages us to learn how to see, to force ourselves to look with simplicity. He used the portrait to narrate little stories.”
