During travel to Italy with my then teenaged son in late summer 2005, we decided to take the train from Rome to Pompei. It was brutally hot -- and, I think, only Dante could've put definition to the description "brutally hot." We caught brief respite in the late-afternoon shade of the railroad platform waiting for the train back and since my high school days when I took technical drawing, thinking I might one day become an architect, I've always loved concentric lines headed to a vanishing point. Probably, goes back to my earliest days traveling as a kid, always wondering what was beyond that horizon. In any case, it was hot, humid, we were soaked to the bone and the platform was eerily empty, no train in sight. So, loving the sign and the paint-peeled building beyond it, I fired off some shots. Offered on Hahnemuhle Fine Art Pearl, I tested this is several sizes before deciding to offer it at 16.3 x 12. NOTE: While the photo image is 16.3 x 12, the actual print with borders is 17.9 x 13.6 . . .

I'm a national award-winning journalist and nine-time Pulitzer nominee who's made hundreds of TV and radio appearances, including NPR and Good Morning America. Author of Swee'pea [Simon & Schuster / Atria], a critically acclaimed book centered around New York City playground basketball legend Lloyd (Swee'pea) Daniels, I've been featured in several documentary films -- including the Emmy Award-winning ESPN 30-for-30 Big Shot. While I've worked primarily as a sports reporter, news reporter, columnist and investigative journalist, I've also done travel writing and photography during a four-decade career at a major New York daily paper, and I'm currently shopping my first novel. This marks my first foray into selling my fine art photography . . . P.S. I've noticed that when it comes to calling up full screen versions of some photos they appear to lack clarity. PLEASE use the "Original" file -- especially, when you're looking at Open Edition prints -- because those files appear to be proper large-scale renditions. Hoping this gets rectified . . .
