The series „Out of Season“ explores touristic landscapes and places outside their function as a stage-setting for holiday makers. What happens to these places after all the “guests” have left? Do they find back to their originality or have they been changed in such a way that the yearly end of the “high season” leaves these places without significance until the next season starts? In the melancholic time when these places retreat into solitude, does the authenticity resurface or is it forever lost in a tribute to functionality in the service of profiteering? Growing up in a small lakeside village in the Austrian Salzkammergut where the “high time” of the touristic season is a short period in the even shorter alpine summer was formative for Yvonne Oswald. The transition from bustling, crowded, noisy and festive to clearing up, storing away and retreating into silence has always struck her as utterly melancholic but at the same time as peaceful and poetic. The Turkish poet Ahmet Rasim's quote “The beauty of a landscape lies in its melancholy” has become her guiding line for this work. So she tries to tell the story with her camera as she feels it, using her visual vocabulary to an ever more abstract and pictorial way. 'Out of Season' is a work in progress since 2004 shot analogue and digital so far in Austria, Italy, Switzerland, Italy and Croatia and has been exhibited in Italy, Germany and Austria. The limited edition fine art print is produced with utmost care and attention as archival chromogenic print (c-print) on Kodak Endura premiere silkmatte paper. The unreflective matte surface enhances the colour richness, vibrancy and sharpness of the photography. Each print is signed, numbered and titled by the artist and will be delivered with text and a certificate of authenticity.
