About The Artwork

This body of work evolved from my “Between Worlds” series and has been greatly influenced by the exposure and fascination of the natural science world. Where-as the previous series dealt much more with psychological concepts and ancient mysticism, this series looks at and presents the external beauty of patterns, geometry, and science. The blossoming patterns that you see are all made from photographs (and digital manipulations) of animal skulls ranging from Crocodile-, Servet Cat-, to Mongoose- skulls. The final product resembles snow-flake looking objects, geometric and detailed blossoming flowers, or, as the title of the series indicates, Radiolaria.

Gregor is a photographer and visual artist from South Africa. He creates provoking images that are thematically focussed and set to interrogate perceptions and self-reflection on culture, landscapes, identity, emotions and mythology. Through his visual work, Gregor captures the complex strength and fragility of the human condition. He carefully visualises and merges layers of realities with imaginations, while exploring what it means to be, think, feel, and dream in the urban world. Whilst his photographs are striking in composition and rich in story-telling, his visual art is in constant creative evolution where he uses exquisite photo-manipulation to create his imaginal works. Gregor has over the past decade evolved with his art, working inventively with various mediums, such as aluminium and silk, and other avant-garde photographic concepts. He has exhibited internationally with group exhibitions raining from Rotterdam to Milan, and has held various successful solo exhibitions in South Africa.
