Archival inkjet pigment print, FineArt Baryta 325 GSM When Dmitry traveled to India he was impressed with the architecture of Rajasthan. Dmitry saw the staircase, he was reminded of his childhood home and school, both with had a spiral staircase. Even though he was hundreds of miles away from Russia he felt at home in a foreign land when he saw the spiral staircase. When exploring Jaipur in India Dmitry was drawn to the intricate detailing of the palaces. Specifically, he was intrigued by the uniformity of the arches. As well he loved the contrasting tones of the white and pink shades that from his point of view peeled away like layers to unveil depth and lines. (Lastly the peaks of each arch evoked memories of the Kokoshnik headpieces worn by Russian dancers in ceremonial traditions). Dmitry’s last image from India was of the Hawa Mahal. Known as the palace of the winds, this building is comprised of numerous windows and balconies creating a myriad of gorgeous patterns and sounds. The Hawa Mahal is stunning from afar but Dmitry wanted to display the intricate lattice work close up so he focused in so the honeycomb like patterns could be appreciated and mesmerize the viewer. Dmitry found similarities between the dome like roofs of Russian churches and the half-domes repeated above each balcony.
