About The Artwork

"Brown flows into the colour of earth, and then to bright green. Behind there is ochre, green and light brown. Blue-green is the colour of the deep water. The lines were coloured by vegetation on the fish farm between Bečej and Bačko Gradište, and the blue boat just happened to be in the water". (Bogdan Ibrajter) "Serbia is also the Danube and the Danube is also its tributaries. Dragoljub Zamurović took most of the photographs for this collection from a hot air balloon. We have thus gained Serbia’s new face. This hovering eye has revealed many natural beauties for the first time. Flying over the birds’ nests in the swamp the camera master sometimes saw that they were not disturbed by his presence at all! They considered him a kindred spirit, albeit one that flies. Many of the photographs therefore carry the freshness of new discoveries.. The stork is an ancient bird, photographed thousands of times, but in this book about nature and people we find a unique sight: a lone stork standing in a swamp. An enigmatic picture of the bird which knows both sides of the globe and also remembers our waters. Next to the Danube we will see the chapel near Kovilj, with a black monk inside. We will see the solitary great white heron in the wild forest. We will meet people of various nationalities, dressed in their picturesque national costumes. We will see the global phenomena of Belgrade’s bridges. We will meet anglers next to the Morava River and fishermen in artificial fish farms, people hard at work with boots up to their waists, always damp and frozen. This book is teaming with original and rare phenomena. We will witness the scene from the Boljetisnko graveyard, where people bring meat, eggs and cakes to the graves on Easter Monday. And, in what is an unforgettable procession, a tree in front of the people will be carved into the shape of a crucifix. On the Danube’s tributaries, the Tisa, Sava and Morava, which cover almost the entire territory of Serbia, we will see the beauty of untouched forests and mountains in the River Danube basin, and even a little house on a rock in the River Drina! On Stara Planina (Old Mountain), in the River Timok basin, we will have the opportunity to see a remarkable gorge for the first time. We will be surprised by the ancient coating of the town roofs under the Petrovaradin fortress and the fiacre driver from Sombor will bring back nostalgic memories. The people from the Danube basin are sometimes unbelievable. On the River Krčedin island the camera meets Mile and his nephew… They were restraining wild horses with lassoes, everything is like a rodeo. Far south, in Pester a photo was taken of the old river riverbed and next to it the new course of the river. On Pester plateau we will see the dragonfly lake and summer pasture. This book was made through the passionate efforts of a great lover of rivers, people, horses, blossoming orchards and birds. Just image how much patience and passion had to be invested to take the photograph, Flock sets off… The exact, unexpected moment when the birds rose over the marsh had to be captured. Among the new images in this book, the Smederevo Fortress, lit up at night, surfaces from unjustified oblivion. The camera caught the real “cliffs” on the Danube’s right bank near Surduk, and in the distant shallow waters, from the balloon, the lens caught two men. Who knows where they were going. While looking at such photos, we ask ourselves where the man came from, where he was heading. There is more than enough philosophy in this book". (Raša Popov)
