About The Artwork

Immediately after setting up a tripod to photograph the Arashiyama Bamboo Grove, in Kyoto a rickshaw passed and turned down this path. I only had a brief moment to capture this image. I waited hoping I would have a second chance. No more rickshaws emerged. Prints are limited edition twelve color archival pigment prints on Ilford Gallery Gold Photo or Pura Velvet fine art paper with a 1" border which is not included in the print dimensions. Prints are available in custom sizes and printed using aluminum, plexi or canvas upon request.

A native New Yorker with homes in both Manhattan and Southampton, LI, the city and the sea have remained a constant muse for Stuart. Landscapes, cityscapes, movement, abstraction and monoliths all coexist within his body of work. An inveterate traveler, Stuart’s subjects – from the Sahara to the Galapagos to Alaska – articulate the essence of a place through iconic and telegraphic images. His commercial work includes both editorial, advertising and corporate work for clients including Andersen Consulting, Atlantic Records, Canon, Ciba Geigy, Cigna, Club Med, Fidelity, Fortune, Mercedes Benz, New York Magazine, Pall Corp, Parents Magazine, Penthouse, Reuters, Publicis Group, Revlon, Texaco, Time Life and the US Postal Service. While Stuart is known for his commercial work, his fine photography work is represented in many private collections. A true craftsman who prefers to control the archival pigment process he uses to make his prints, Stuart’s approach is both contemporary – and classical, giving his work an arresting and timeless appeal.
