Please note that this artwork ships within 10 working days, as it is printed on demand. From 2013-2015 I worked with the Swiss actor Roland Koch for “Artists in Action”. It was a big luck to win him for my photoseries, an inspiring and very fruitful cooperation. I photographed him at work on 3 locations: in Constance/Germany, at the filmset from the popular German crime series “Tatort” (2013), in St. Gallen/Switzerland at work as a theater director during rehearsals (2014) and in Vienna/Austria at the famous Burgtheater, where he is part of the ensemble since 1999, and at the Max Reinhardt Seminar, where he is teaching acting students. Besides photographs at work with Roland Koch I realized my first staged artists portraits. Available as photobook and launch issue of my culture magazine APP art.photography.poetry. This triptych is from the St. Gallen shooting, photographed in June 2014 during theater rehearsals at the Lokremise. It shows Roland Koch as theater director, staging Moritz Rinke's "We love and know nothing". ARTISTS IN ACTION Since 2010 I am focusing on a photo series about “Artists in Action”, portraying European artists from various fields: musicians, authors and actors at work, in order to explore the creative process and the fascination of art. This series started with the artist portrait of Mirella Leone, a very talented and expressive young Italian soprano singer. In 2011 I realized a triptych photocollage of HSH Karl Friedrich, Prince of Hohenzollern as well as the groovy German jazz musician, known as "Charly”. In 2012 I portrayed the German bestselling author Peter Prange during his work in his home office, at the University Library Tuebingen and during a book presentation. From 2013 – 2015 I have been working on an artists portrait of the Swiss actor Roland Koch. In November 2013 I photographed him during the filming of the popular German crime series "Tatort" in Constance/Germany, in June 2014 during his work as theatre director at the "Lokremise" in St. Gallen/Switzerland and in January 2015 in Vienna/Austria at the famous Burgtheater, where Koch since 1999 is part of the ensemble, and at the Max Reinhardt Seminar, where he is working as an acting teacher. In 2015 I photographed the American Conductor Myron Romanul, Conductor at the Nationaltheater Munich, Germany, Principal Conductor of the Massachusetts Symphony Orchestra and Guest Conductor at His Majesty's Theater in Perth, Australia, and the Opéra national du Rhin, France. Recently I also began writing about my exciting meetings, that became more intense with Roland Koch, approaching the person behind the artist and reflecting the creative process in portraying, published in the first issue of APP, a magazine about art, photography and poetry. For my "Artists in Action" series I chose the form of the triptych, because it allowed me to portray various facets of the artistic expression and because in this way results a kind of motion portrait. With this series I intend to picture movement in the still. I also like the tension curve which is built up in the triptych and leads to a central expression, a kind of quintessence in the middle part. And, by the way, I consider triptychs, with their original religios connotation, ideal for portraying personalities. Because many of them are worshipped and adored like Gods. I am realizing the prints in high gloss, so that they result like mirrors in confront of the viewer. To express that these artists are identification figures, first of all to me, but also for the public. Born in Germany, Martina Rall studied Italian and German literature as well as linguistics at the Universities of Tübingen and Parma/Italy (M.A.), and later on Fine Arts at the Academy of Arts in Nürtingen. She worked first as a concept and graphic designer before she devoted herself to her artistic career. As a multi-faceted artist, Martina Rall uses different techniques and materials in her artworks: graphics, paintings, photographs and writings. In Art she focuses on a mixed media series of Icon Self Portraits "Being Marilyn Monroe" and a photo series about “Artists in Action”, portraying European artists from various fields: musicians, authors and actors at work, to explore the creative process and the fascination of art. From Pop Art to Cindy Sherman photography or Russian cinematography, the inspiration behind her work combines an interesting blend of artistic expressions. Her mixed media selfportrait series “Being Marilyn Monroe. Icon Portraits” is influenced by the work of surrealist female artists like Frida Kahlo and Niki de St. Phalle as well as by Italian author Luigi Pirandello's post-modernist approach on identity theory. A series of coincidences brought Martina Rall to explore and re-think the inherent nature of her work and provides a practical meaning to the American poet William Carlos Williams' quote:' «The artist is always and forever painting only one thing: a self-portrait».
