Known by a variety of names ("sacred datura," "jimson weed," "thorn apple," "Georgia O'Keeffe's flower), datura blooms at dusk, and the flowers begin to droop as soon as direct sunlight hits them in the morning. All parts of the plant are poisonous. Various Native American groups have a history of the use of this mysterious, magical plant in rituals. Ingestion of the plant or plant parts can cause death. However, the flower is beautiful, if short lived, and I enjoy capturing the short lived beauty in photographs.

Formally trained in Anthropology (PhD) and Medicine (MD; Board Certified in Ob/Gyn, retired), I seek out both the beautiful and the interesting in nature and in life. Through photography I share what I see, sometimes as images "straight from the camera" and sometimes as images created with a variety of techniques to express what I see in "the mind's eye." Thank you for visiting, and for taking the time to look at the images here.
