Shipyard V Photograph - Limited Edition of 1

The Shipyard series was done in the historic boatyards of New Bedford, MA during the height of the recession. At this time there were severe fishing restrictions as well, so most of the boats were docked and hadn’t been in use for a while. Many were in need of work and showed the weather of the years; there was a surreal quality to the deserted boatyards. It was a visual feast of rust, peeling paint, metal, and rope as geometric shapes cut into the landscape with the sound of metal crushing against the piers. This series documents these elements and redefines them to create visual ambiguity and perceptual harmony with respect to the history and stories of this place. These photographs are seen with the same sensibility as I have applied in my collage work over the last thirty years.
