I was originally inspired to paint Abstract Expressionist style paintings, because they meant freedom from being told what to do! Admittedly, to this day, I still have difficulty having someone tell me what I should paint or how I should achieve "their" vision. Now after some fifty plus years of doing what I do, it continues to amaze me, when a painting finishes itself. At first I used oils and pallet knives to apply the pigments now I use acrylic paint. For me the beauty is watching the paints spill from the buckets, tubes, containers onto the canvas and become the story. Sometime this occurs instandly and there have been times when a painting waited 4-5 years to become completed, as was the case of "On Calvary and Sadducees & Pharisees" both of which are in private collections. While the painting using just one color, white on canvas, titled "Less is More remains in my collection". My main concern is that the viewer/owner doesn't get all caught up in what it meant to me, rather what it means to them as they live with it. Please feel free to test yourself by having what ever experiences you like while checking out my work, it's all about you - Not Me. Respectfully, Elf Evans 6 July 2016 For me Photography is an Art Form, misunderstood by many, and unfortunately lightly respected by some in the Art World(s) today! After studying Photography in Santa Monica at the Community College, and assisting a few professionals. This all began in the mid 1980's. I set sail for Seattle, Washington and found my niche in Real Estate and promotional imagery. I began to please my creative impulses by shooting Still Life in studio reminding me of the fun I had doing table top work while living in California. The time utilized in fashioning a "Styll Lyfe" to me is fantastic. Casting the cast of characters that reveal the story line involved in this style of Art is quite lengthy. I do all of my work in studio, and not out of doors shooting old barns and calling that still life. Arranging the light, composition, items and colors of backgrounds, fabrics etc., all play significant roles in the process. It is for me akin to directing a play on stage! Old painters used sketches to assist their ambition to portray a painting if they had had cameras they would have loved it. However, there are far too many people today that want to put down the time and skills many seasoned photographers spend to make the eye ball carrry monumental messages to the brain.
