Celebrating over 200 years, the historic “Ranchos Church” was built in the early 1800’s, and is the only original church which remains intact in the Taos, New Mexico area. San Francisco de Asis Church continues to be integral part of the spiritual community. This church structure, although so rustic and primitive in its construction methods, is a sculptural masterpiece of early 19th Century Southwestern Adobe Architecture. Bringing together the Pueblo Indian and Catholic Mission Styles Architecture, the "Rachos Church" is an iconic historical landmark. Insert the high desert dramatic skies of the Southwestern United States and you have a image of timeless beauty and spirit. When I photographed this church, I wanted to capture it's rugged, simple construction, elegant sculptural forms, beautiful proportions, and the ever present majestic skies over Taos, NM. I also employed many of the the techniques I have learned from studying Ansel Adams over the years, as well as approaching the subject much like he would have 75 years ago. Each Limited Edition 36" x 23.4" high print is made on Epson Premium Luster Professional Photographic Paper and meticulously inspected and signed by the artist.

Marshall Gould’s sharp, high contrast black-and-white and color photographic prints can be characterized by diagonal framing, clean compositions, dramatic highlights and strong, luxurious shadows. Often taking candid, documentary-style shots on location, Gould’s latest subject matter might involve a landscape of the American West, a series of equine images documenting the relationship between a mare and her newborn foal, a homeless person, or a culture/lifestyle image, making these gritty, regional works as conceptually dense as they are compositionally superb. Usually incorporating elements of the earth and/or sky, Gould’s works are about co-existence and reference the stylistic philosophies of early “Golden Age” photography. Gould aims to convey a vibrant and provocative visual narrative about the land, culture and residents of his current locale. He has exhibited at the Agora Gallery in NYC, The Blank Wall Gallery in Athens, Greece, The Open Shutter Gallery in Durango, Colorado, and The Mistlin Gallery in Modest, CA.. He has also received numerous honors in The Spider Awards, ND Awards, The International Color Awards, and has been frequently published in Black & White Magazine over the last five years. Marshall Gould was born in Providence, Rhode Island and received his Bachelor of Industrial Design from the College of Visual and Performing Arts, Syracuse University. He and his wife Becky live in Oakdale, CA., “The Cowboy Capital of The World.”
