About The Artwork

She is me. I, her. Soul to heart, ever spinning. I end. She begins. © marsha gray carrington haiku poetry describing the art by meg schutte © 2019 This image is part of a collective of images that I call “photo fusions”, based on a process where I create the original image or a series of images that I then manipulate by digitally fusing components together in an almost puzzle like fashion. My process evolves in an intuitive way until II arrive at the final image that represents my inner voice. Image is 16 x 16 inches printed on 17 x 22 inch archival Moab Lasal Exhibition Luster paper paper. For this image I found inspiration in artists such as Diane Arbus, Joel-Peter Witkin, and Salvador Dali. Other sizes available upon request. Contact: marsha@marshagraycarrington.com

Marsha’s images are based on fantastical imaginings, symbolism, emotions, sexuality and identity. Often utilizing fabric and sometimes masks which partially or completely cover the subject, her work represents a metaphorical journey in self realization and discovery based on life experiences and relationships. She works in many mediums and sees each as merely a creative tool. As with her photography, the camera is a paint brush representing her mind’s eye. In her unique images she calls “photo fusions” Marsha creates the initial photographs, then goes further by manipulating them digitally in an almost puzzle like fashion, creating something completely new. These particular images have been likened to a kaleidoscope…the more one looks at the images the more one discovers and sees. While the photo fusions include symmetrical elements, Marsha most often takes the final image to an asymmetrical place intentionally, with some details being quite subtle. She recognizes that we as humans have more than one side, and our psyche’s can be quite complex. These elements are vital in her art…. covering and uncovering, revealing one part and then another, while understanding that life is a continuum, ever changing and evolving. Marsha has been painting, drawing, taking photographs, or making things, ever since she can remember. For many years in the past her creative talents were utilized commercially working on major motion pictures for studios like Disney, in Visual Effects Animation. Marsha also has illustrated seven children’s books for major publishers, as well as greeting card and surface designs for manufacturers around the US. She grew up and attended Undergraduate school in Virginia, and later moved to S. California where she did her graduate studies in fine art photography. After living in Los Angeles for 30 years, she and her husband left the big city and now reside in the small town of Sandusky, Ohio. There Marsha has a working studio overlooking Lake Erie where she focuses on her fine art. In addition, she owns and operates an art gallery which features her own work and other artists in group and solo shows.
