Emma began exhibiting her art photography in 1992 , and has established a strong following with her floral art creations. She was the only New Zealand artist invited to exhibit at 2016’s Summer Exhibition at the Royal Academy in London. Building upon the themes of death and impermanence, Emma’s new series 'Embellish' discusses the concept of illusion, its connection to beauty and the integral role this idea plays within society. Glorious arrangements of embellished blooms spill from the necks of magnificent vessels, questioning the nature of beauty and its relationship with authenticity. “I wished to explore how we build facades in our life – how we create them to enhance our beauty or conceal our realities; and whether this in turn compromises our authenticity.” Inspiration was drawn from the Dutch masters who created impossible bouquets … they are embellished themselves as they couldn’t possibly exist within the one season. "I have embraced their techniques and artifice for my own creations". Illusion is created with the use of real and artificial flowers. Flowers are the most universal forms of life, death and beauty.
