About The Artwork

This is one of the most beautiful landscapes to visit in Westport Connecticut and is now known as WInslow Park, named after Richard H. Winslow Esq. who made it his home back in 1860 when he built an elaborate mansion on the site known as Compo House. The property was later owned by Baron Walter Langer von Langendorff, the founder of Evyan perfumes, thus the name that locals began referring to it as. By the 1960's the mansion had fallen into serious disrepair, and it was finally purchased by the town which turned it into a public park, named after the original owner. This portrait was photographed several years before the town acquired it. I grew up in Westport before the town acquired the property, and when it was just an abandoned property with fields and trails that's we'd play and ride our bikes on...but only during the daylight hours, because after dark it took on a very spooky sort of vibe. You see, for a while it had been a sanitarium, and as the building fell more and more into disrepair, it started to take on a very spooky sort of aire, sort of like a mix between "The Addams Family" house on Cemetery Lane, and the sanitorium in "One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest". The property was an indelible memory for me growing up in Westport, and so it became one of the first fine art portraits I shot from a helicopter.
