From an early age, Stuart felt the calling to pick up a camera and record visuals that presented as intriguing, scary, blissful, personal experiences that would later define his own style. Dark nights of Camden Town filled his early photographic years, a life of seedy pubs and hidden haunts full of crazy, lost characters whose soulful searches and secret stories intrigued Stuart. It was his left bank, a time of smoke-blown hardship and adventure, captured through the lens of his camera. This intensely creative period took a grip and began to shape Stuart’s direction. Inspired by an overwhelming passion to leave lasting impressions on paper dipped in silver, he was already following his calling. As a successful photographer and printer, Stuart has worked with some of the best photographers and art directors of their time. His unique technique and proven eye for details has established his work far beyond the reaches of Camden. Yet a sense of modesty restrains acknowledgement and keeps him in the shadows. For now. To know Stuart’s depths is like discovering a key to a treasure chest. To understand him is like taking one of Alice’s pills hidden away in the same chest … The journey continues. His mesmeric images spurn one to re-think, examine its subjects, even pray for those seeking to be seen from within. Every magical grain recorded on film holds a clue. Art. Image. Life. Stuart works predominantly in black and white on analogue film and prints all negatives by hand using the traditional darkroom process. Stuart now resides in Somerset with a Bengal, named Betty.
