About The Artwork

The photograph captures a scene of mesmerizing juxtapositions, where the ethereal glow of a golden ring takes center stage in a grand, elongated arched hallway. The radiant sunlight, streaming through a window on the right, has an otherworldly glow, casting its rays upon the floor. The interplay of light and form creates a sense of drama and mystique, drawing the viewer's gaze towards the captivating focal point of the golden ring. Behind the ring, two solemn pedestals stand adorned with flaming candles, their subdued light adding an aura of quiet reverence to the scene. The juxtaposition of the radiant ring against the subdued candlelight invites contemplation on the interplay of brilliance and subtlety, of opulence and simplicity. The composition exudes an air of enigmatic beauty, inviting the viewer to immerse themselves in the interplay of light, shadow, and the symbolic elements within the arching hallway.

I have been a photographer for four decades in New York and currently reside in Brooklyn. My body of work is titled Misbegotten Places, which involves creating small dioramas from photographs I have taken. Through careful camera angles and lighting, these dioramas are transformed into lifelike images that can often deceive the viewer, while always conveying a sense of "misbegotten." The lines between reality and fiction are blurred, as these lifelike dioramas, when photographed, often deceive the viewer with their uncanny realism. However, true to the collection's title, "Misbegotten Places," each scene is infused with a subtle element of the unexpected or the out-of-place, challenging the viewer's perception and inviting them to delve deeper into the narratives woven within these meticulously crafted compositions.
