Improvisation, pt. 11 in the series: The Final Takeover All living organisms have to deal with what they’re given. Sometimes it will be the best place in the sun, on a nice hill, with a cool breeze. (Us humans need a view and a drink to go with that and we’re quite content.) Sometimes life is hard and you get little to work with. Your seed fell in a dark gloomy inhospitable area, with dumped steel all around. You have to make due. You still have to do the work, no matter what the odds are. And you have to improvise to make the best of it. Just like this plant, doing its best to catch a ray of light and dodging the heavy steel beams. It deals with what it has been given. There’s a lesson in that. What I find fascinating is that , given the chance, nature will takeover everything made by man. It might take a while, meet many complications, thousands of years, but in the end even the tallest buildings will crumble. Nature does not hurry. She is patient and very efficient. This digitally manipulated photo is printed on Hahnemuhle German etching paper.

Forces of nature speak to my soul. Ever since I learned that nature is extremely sensory intelligent and that she will outlive human beings, I am in awe by her power. Her courage, her will to survive and her unstoppable improvisation to thrive and survive, has become the theme I work with. In nature I seek signs of hope, of empowerment and the sheer willpower to live, often against all odds. This natural power touches my soul deeply. Nature doesn’t lie, she’s always authentic and we can learn a lot from her. For 20 years I have been a photo editor for newspapers and magazines. I left photography and worked as an independent couples counselor for nearly a decade. During that time I became intrigued about how important being in nature is to a stressed soul. I wrote a book about how to use nature to gain self confidence and become authentic. I started to miss photography and decided to close my practice and take up my camera to seek out nature’s lessons and capture them the way I see them. I am convinced that when we open up to nature's solutions for life's complications, we will rediscover our authenticity and what life is truly about.
