Ships in a Tube
I was obsessed with the TV series Peaky Blinders, the way it was filmed effected and excited me, I couldn't get enough of the gritty industrial visuals and breath taking coolness of the aesthetics from that era. At the time I took photographed this image, I was studying the history of fashion designer Thomas Burberry who invented the trench coat, which became staple military attire in WW1; which was of course a strong narrative in Peaky Blinders. I connected the two subjects which inspired the styling of the couple. It took several attempts to get the 'strut' just right, I wanted them to look like really powerful gang bosses on a mission. I discovered this incredible boat yard location when I was dropping my son off at his friends who lives on a boat, I stopped dead in my tracks and said 'I MUST shoot here' it took me a few months to decide what kind of concept to shoot and after binge watching Peaky Blinders I knew it had to be that.
