About The Artwork

The Fisherman's Dog (2020) Fishing season has started in the Caspian Sea, North region of Iran. In the wee hours of the noon, as the cold daily breeze blows swiftly over the water before sunset, the men gather. Wearing long plastic overalls and thin jackers, they come here to set the day's first net. The Caspian Sea, shared between five countries - Iran, Russia, Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan and Turkmenistan - has been in "critical condition" with oil tankers alone dumping over 120,000 tonnes of pollutants annually. Here in North of Iran the fishermen are not only men who catch fish, but they sit silently and wait. They are poor and hungry. Men like Hamid, who has the air of a silent, dazzling hero, speaking little but saving the day. And his dog guarding watching my every step as I got closer to capture this photograph.
