About The Artwork

This photo captures the innocent gaze of an Afghan girl in a refugee camp on the outskirts of Meybod, Yazd—a poignant reminder of the enduring spirit of a community marred by recent violence and decades of displacement. Despite the backdrop of unrest and protests following a tragic incident in December 2023, the Afghan refugees' struggle for peace and a semblance of home continues. Taken nearly a decade earlier, this image reflects a daily life of simplicity and survival, echoing a history of perseverance amidst the harshest of realities. Meybod, Yazd, Iran © Golnaz Jamsheed, 2012
