About The Artwork
From my days as a young girl sitting in church, I was fascinated by the character of Mary Magdalene. As an adult, the more I read about her, the more she fascinated me and I've been searching for her, wanting to know who she is beyond the devoted follower, the female archetype, the woman...the sinner...all the roles in which she's been cast. In this photograph, she floats in the fragments of her own gospel, found in a cave in Nag Hammadi. She is free, openly vulnerable, born into the strange and beautiful lost world of which she preached.
