How rare it is these days that we can capture an image of a person simply doing 'not doing.' In this photograph, a female figure in a vivid blue coat is seen from a vantage point above as she descends a staircase. A story for the viewer unfolds, slowly. Where is she? What is the marble in the foreground, in focus? Her head is lowered. Is she simply taking care to watch each step--or is something else on her mind? She is surrounded by a deep sense of quiet, of solitude. This is the second variation in a series I call 'The History of Solitude.' Solitude is a rare quality, especially today. Yet in each generation, in any place in the world, it can be found--something to cherish, especially in the cacophony of sound, sights, screens, of today. The image is professionally printed on archival cotton rag paper with a matte finish, which provides rich, deep tones and texture. There is a 2" border on all sides. The image size is ideal for framing in a generously-sized 8-ply mat, and makes a calm addition to any space.

Larry Simon takes his inspiration from seemingly everyday objects, surfaces and scenes to create dreamlike narratives shrouded in a sense of the unknown: the Inner World residing in our subconscious--a place where we cannot fill in all the blanks. As a photographic artist, he often works with a blend of sharp and soft focus, presenting his work in photo collage form or as digital prints. A constant roamer, Larry Simon is based in Chicago. Influences: Gerhard Richter, Saul Leiter, Haruki Murakami, Alfred Brendel
