About The Artwork
This work as part of the a series of ten images, portrays and explores our relationship to the environment. I ask viewers with all of my work to take a contemplative and thoughtful look at what is in the frame. Of course, these images can be appreciated for their visual compositional beauty, but they can also read a visual texts telling a story about the world we live in and how we relate to it. The landscape, sooner or later manifests our collective ideals, thoughts and desires. I chose to shoot this series over two months under full moonlight. In total there were seven different venues to shoot in and around the area of Valencia, Spain. These images have a sense of the familiar and peculiar. The light of the moon offers a two dimensionality and subdued feeling that does not come from the sunlight. The shades of black and white entice us to look more for the subject matter within the picture.

Steve Young was born in London in 1970. He now lives in the Valencia region of Spain. For many years he has worked on photography projects both commercial and private. Primarily he describes himself as an academically trained art photographer. What does that mean? That all of the work made is underpinned by contextual and visual research, sometimes taking some months to prepare and shoot a project. The work, although not always obvious, offers the viewer both a critique of the situation that is photographed as well as an aesthetic experience. He is an experienced meditator. Over the years of photography practice the motivations to make photos have changed. In the beginning the desire was simply to get the best looking shot. As time has evolved, his artistic vision has deepened and aligned itself more with the voice of experience as an observer of outer and inner phenomia. Photography for Steve Young, is almost always a practice in time of patience and reflection, never rushed or hurried. In many cases the maturation of a body of work can take months or year.
