About The Artwork

"The dedicated pursuit of happiness is itself a form of sadness." - Dominic Rouse (The Artist's Journal, December 2005) A short video about this image narrated by the artist can be viewed at - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DdtwYFKpPyY The edition is limited to 250 signed and numbered prints on Fuji's beautiful Crystal Archive paper. The image area allows for a generous white border on all four sides of the image for easy framing. A Certificate of Print Authenticity is included and a hand numbered Gallery Stamp is printed on the back. Ships rolled in a large PVC tube. "His images are challenging because the questions he asks in his images are challenging themselves. In my interview with him he quotes Picasso who said that computers are useless because they only give you answers. Rouse's photographs pose far more questions than they answer and I suspect that is precisely his intention." (Brooks Jensen - LensWork Publishing, USA) PLEASE NOTE - the edition number of the print you receive will not necessarily correspond to that shown in the listing photographs.

Dominic Rouse has been described as one of the most interesting photographers working today. He is a visionary in the truest sense of the word and his work probably has more in common with painting than photography. Brooks Jensen, the editor of America's LensWork Magazine, has said that Rouse does not take pictures of the world, he makes photographs of his mind. His unique vision and mastery of his craft set him apart from most of the other photographers who use the computer in their practice. His work may appear to be rooted in the past but it is the product of a seamless blend of the latest digital technologies and the timeless qualities of large format black and white photography.
