Toco Toucan - Playful Antics Photograph

This painting was done painstakingly by placing layer upon layer of acrylic paint to create the vibrancy and depth of color needed for this exquisite tropical bird, the Toco Toucan, a cheeky and playful charactor, one which is often used in advertising material world wide since the early 1900's. Another charactor close to my heart as a child growing up in the highlands of New Guinea, my godparents who lived in a coastal town 'Madang' had a toocan as a pet, I never did know how they aquired it. It's name was George and much loved for his cute and playful antics. Another experience with this gorgeous bird was up in the mountains of New Britain where my father operated with a small team at a timber workshop, were visited regularly by another Toucan of which I have photos of him enjoying the company of the native workers. This is the first of a new collection in the making of the Toucan family.
