About The Artwork

This series is reminiscent of Andy Warhol from a vintage photograph found on the market of old books in Shanghai, an anonymous portrait that serves as a matrix for the series. Five variations colorized and printed on sheets of transparent paper of different colors and opacities complete this matrix and modify the initial portrait, while creating a sense of depth and a screen-printed effect. Between two layers of paper are sliced images or other elements that alter the composition and expression of the original face. Each image is then scanned, and the six images in the series are put together to form a sequential portrait. It is possible to order your own "face like a landscape" from a photograph entrusted to the artist. The edition is limited to 7 prints + 2 artist proofs, regardless size of the print. Each of them is numbered, signed and provided with a certificate of authenticity. Printed on Fine Art paper, Hahnemühle Photo Rag 308 g.

Gaëlle Cueff lives in Paris. She has been mainly working on encaustic art and photography for last 2 years, and her topics are especially based on poetic potential of trees and forest. In a previous period she developed a work rooted largely in the world of cabinets of curiosities and surrealism. Her collages and assemblages combine elements of the animal kingdom, pictorial interventions and photographs in singular images with a strong narrative tendency. Her polysemic stories speak of hybridization, traces, memory. Some of her works are in Chinese, American, Swiss, French and Belgian private collections.
