About The Artwork

An archival pigment print from a scanned 4x5" film negative I had my eye on the two dinos in the shop window for awhile, and waited for an appropriate billboard to counterpoint. Got a fun billboard, but the window display of the dinos often had the shop light turned off at night. When all planets finally aligned, I took a series of exposures at dusk to get just the right balance between the illumination of the sky, the billboard and the dinos in the shop window. A 4x5 view camera was used, which is a great tool for architectural subjects. This image is included in my self-published book "Small Pieces of Los Angeles briefly Illuminated", and I consider it a real thematic linchpin for the images selected image size is 14 1/8" x 19" on 17 x 22" paper This image is printed on Epson Legacy Platine paper, a satin finish paper that emulates a traditional darkroom paper. I use this paper when I want to preserve some level of photographic reality rather than a departure in a more graphic representation of the image Print #1 from Edition I of 25 archival pigment prints + 2 A/P Edition II of 25 gelatin silver prints in 16 x 20" size (3 sold) this photograph is not framed

I have worked most of my professional life in the movies. That experience has left me with an instinct toward a narrative in my photos. Not always as a straightforward story, but at least as a structure to organize pieces of an image to work together. I look to elevate the mundane in my work, to create an image that rewards repeated visits. Much of my work is a continuing portrait of Los Angeles. I moved to Los Angeles as a young man to go to UCLA Film School, and it turned into a lifelong adventure. I have collected some in my self-published book “Small Pieces of Los Angeles briefly Illuminated”.
