About The Artwork

Fuji Crystal DP II paper • Mounted on an aluminum Dibond backing (0.12" thick) • All mounted under crystal clear acrylic glass (0,08" thick) • Hanging system with metal rails running along the back of the aluminum Dibond. VANITAS (MYTHOLOGIES, DREAMS & REALITIES…) My artistic approach questions representation and its limits as well as the place of the viewer with the work - questioning the very notion of identity and automaticity of photographic rendering and thus reality. My "photographic paintings" do not seek to reproduce reality but to build stories based on dreamlike representations, symbols and archetypes manipulation. The photographic texture is my pigment. The pixel, my brush. My frame is my canvas ... Through graphical constructions and painstaking scenes I recompose reality into a fiction that seeks to transcend it . My "paintings" are rebus, puzzles, 'exquisite corpses' - nothing being determined in advance - scenes and subjects building themselves by free association of ideas. Stimulating suggestion, mixing desire and imagination, provoking the mind, affecting the senses, questioning the essence of true through a spiritual freedom - in a word abolish the reality principle. From this approach arise unexpected scenes, not in accordance with usual stereotypes. The intimate portraits' configuration combined with the broad framing of scenes helps to dilute the subject in an apparent distance. The work puts us, through its theatricality, in a real position of spectator. Reinstating us in a new perspective, a fantasy horizon. Spectators of the scene, spectators of our own projections, spectators of ourselves. 'The mise en abîme' of my visions wants to shake hypocrisy and contemporary narcissism, push the intimate exploration of our most unspeakable impulses - those of life and death, outrageous pleasures, trivialities, of sublimated desires, beauty immaculate. « I am a border and I invite those who watch my work to cross it. » Fabrice Rondon
