About The Artwork

Veiled A warm evening veil covers the slopes of the mountains and sunlit clouds evaporate into the darkening sky =o=o=o=o=o=o=o=o= On the occasion of the vernissage of the exhibition 'El Duende', July 2017 in Bellano near Lake Como - Italy, I have made two series of photos in the mountains and valleys in the vicinity of Bellano. When making those series, I inspired myself by the theme of the exhibition: looking for the spirit of mountains and valleys. Duende has been identified as the spirit of evocation, physical and emotional response elicited by art. Having the Duende is equivalent to that thrill that makes you smile or cry in front of a particularly expressive artistic performance. The term is often used in folk music in particular in Flamenco, during the most intense performance. I participated in the exhibition with 4 photos. 'Veiled' is a photo in the series 'The spirits of the mountains', and is also available as limited edition print without borders, printed on cotton paper and available in various sizes. Please send me a message/email for more information. =o=o=o=o=o=o=o=o=o=o=o= Limited edition custom made fine art print, printed on 320 g / m² fine art cotton paper*. The photos are for sale in a limited edition art print of 28 prints in total. For every photograph I sell a maximum of 4 signed and numbered prints per size 'group' within the total of 28 prints. Make your wishes known to the Saatchi Art staff -or to me through a mail/message- and I upload the custom photo. * Fine art cotton paper is made off 100% pure and natural cotton fibers. Its natural white, smooth and velvety matt surface, the wonderful feel and the perfect color reproduction make it the perfect basis for long-lasting works of art. A special advantage is its extreme longevity. The aging resistance is due to pure, acid-free paper, which does not require any optical brighteners or other additives used in papers. The paper does not yellow, the prints remain beautiful under normal conditions for a lifetime. The extremely long shelf life is certified according to ISO 9706 (FograCert 28800). -o-o-o-o-o-o-o-o-o-o-o-o- All my photos are 'made in camera'. This means that I never use filters or editing software to manipulate my photos.

With my artworks, I hope to tease and stimulate more than just your sight. I want you to sense what I sensed when I made the artwork; the light, the temperature, the atmosphere... sometimes even the scent of a damp autumn forest and the cold of the whirling salty breath of a storm on the beach of the North Sea. In this way I ask you to reflect for a moment on the nature around you, on the beautiful feeling that nature can evoke, on what we will lose if we continue on the path of 'never enough'. My main inspiration is the vulnerability of nature. I see changes in nature. I see the effects of urbanization, the pressure of pollution and of the changes in the climate. I hope to make people aware of that vulnerability by sharing what I feel when I look around me. My work is often described by others as abstract, minimalistic and impressionistic. My style is distinct and pure, and is characterized by soft colors, soft focus and the effects created by how I move my camera during making the photo. I like experimenting and exploring the limits of what the camera can handle. I myself often describe my style as abstract realistic and impressionistic. I mostly work in nature where I immerse myself in the shapes, colors, sounds and stillness of the natural surroundings. My work can be described as the most pure form of fine art photography, since I choose to create the abstract and impressionist effects as seen in my photographs, using only the basic camera settings. Photo software is used only to remove dust or to adjust brightness, contrast and cropping to improve my compositions. I don't manipulate my photos and I don't use digital editing tools or filters. The titles of my photos are an important element of the entire work of art. In addition, I often write a short poem or a few lines of prose to a photo. Born in 1959 in the city of Gouda in The Netherlands, I now live with my wife and dog in a small farmhouse in the Danish Thy region in North West Jutland. In the summer of 2018 my wife and I moved from a larger city in The Netherlands to a small hamlet in the Thy region. We fell in love with this region about ten years ago... We live a simple, minimalistic life, as self sufficient and sustainable as possible, and we love it... My photography has been sold and exhibited in various countries all over the world.
