About The Artwork

The Bristlecone Pines are noted to be the oldest living things on earth. Some trees have been dated ( using tree ring cores ) to be 4600 years olds and still growing. These trees grow in many locations in the Southwest, but they reach their greatest age and many of the most photogenic trees are in the White Mountains east of the Sierra Nevada. . The wood is so dense and the air is so cold and clean that virtually no bugs or fungi are around to attack the live trees or breakdown the wood of dead trees. Because of this, the trees remain standing for a thousand years or more even after the tree dies. I camped out near this forest and was lucky to have a snow storm arrive to help me make some interesting .photos. Even though the bark is worn off these trees in most places, there is still enough bark to conduct water and minerals to some parts of the living trees.
