Vila Velebita 01 - Limited Edition of 25 Photograph

VILA VELEBITA During my travels on the Dalmatian coast, I recognized the influence of wind on body, mind and soul. This area is dominated by two kind of wind, the "Bura" and the "Yugo" The "Yugo" sends moist, heavy air from the south to the coast. It causes many people to sink into lethargy and obscures the senses. Looking out to sea, the mighty cloud towers merge with the Adriatic islands. Reality blurs and strange beings appear. The dry and clear air of the "Bura" from the northeast sweeps away with its gale-force gusts the heavy air of the "Yugo" and brings again clarity and freshness for body and soul. This inspired me to photograph the transforming power of the wind with a dancer. Alina, the daughter of my hosts on the island „Dugi Otok“ danced for me on the beach of Mežan the Vila Velebita, a mythological figure of the Slavs. In the pictures you can see two different movements. One is from the dancer, the other from me. As the girl danced the wind, I moved the camera. It was a Hasselblad 503 with a Zeiss Planar 80mm 1: 2.8. I developed the Kodak Plus X Pan and scanned it. The prints were printed with pigmented ink on barite gallery paper.
