Westzaan 29 - 05 - 2012 is part of a the series Space-Time-Lines which consists of four different Dutch landscapes each perceived from 11 subsequent electricity towers. To make the photographs the artist climbed to the summits of the 11 towers in one day. The positions of the 88 photographs correspond with the geographical positions of the depicted locations. Each work covers the elapsed time of a day. The works of Wouter van Buuren (the Netherlands, 1972) are reflections on the experience of space and time. Van Buuren explores new ways to represent the landscape and the experience of being in it and traveling through. The resulting works are collages of photographs which are often shot from high and hard to access locations. These locations include rooftops, bridges and electricity towers. Fragments of the vantage points are often present in the work. The collages are digitally composed but the image is never manipulated. Van Buuren’s work is layered in the sense that it does not only reconstruct the landscape but also reflects its own creation process. The work reflects on the notion of perception itself.
