About The Artwork

Photographed in the spring of 2017 in a country estate in a remote village in Northern France, the picture of Dorya Glenn is also dubbed “Who knows a woman’s name?” by its author. Because you are women, people will force their thinking on you, their boundaries on you. They will tell you how to dress, how to behave, who you can meet and where you can go. You live in the shadows of people's judgment, until…Dorya Glenn appeared in front of our camera. Inspired by an accidental press photo and the memorable gunshot scene from Doctor Zhivago (1965), one of the greatest epic movie ever made, Dorya Glenn explores the tension between identity and power. In this bold, edgy and stunning image the artist duo merged into one identity. Dorya Glenn can do the impossible… * “Surrounded by red sand plain, her veil curved along her naked skin, rising and spiraling like angel’s wings. The ruby stone at her throat had the effect of a great drop of blood oozing silently from an invisible wound. The color paired well with her bloodshot eyes. What’s troubling our Queen? […] Today her platinum hair like gauzy spider silk was twisted up off her neck, baring her skin covered in alarmingly beautiful details that forever changed as she breathed. She wore a pair of desert scorpions as earrings, which trembled unsteadily from her lobes. Ah, she was an exquisite horror! Her darkness came to me in waves, emanating from the faint slope of her chest and her creaseless forehead showing a pale hairline unmarred by age. Who is she?” The picture of Dorya Glenn
