In 1956 the Gower Peninsula in South Wales was the first place in the U.K. to be designated an ‘Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty’ (AONB). I have always been fascinated by the Gower’s myths and legends, and its distinctive, rugged coastline. It is frequently visited by severe storms during the winter months, and over the centuries has seen more than two hundred and fifty shipwrecks in the treacherous sea that surrounds it. There have been many wrecks along this beach and following a storm in January 1868 the beach was strewn with bodies from the four wrecked vessels that were lost in a single day, taking nineteen lives with them. Not surprisingly there have been many reports of hauntings – one being the thunderous sound of horses’ hooves along the two-mile stretch of sand. - This print was produced from a scan of the original 35mm negative. It is an archival pigment print produced using Canon ‘Lucia Pro’ inks on Canson Platine Fibre Rag 310gsm paper. Image size 37 x 50 cms. Paper size 42 x 59 cms. Edition of 30 + 2 AP. This combination of materials exceeds the ISO 9706 grade standard that has been developed to meet galleries and museum's longevity requirements, guaranteeing generations of image permanence, when displayed and stored in the correct conditions. My printing technique stems from 30+ years of traditional darkroom experience. Adapted to modern processes it continues to convey my own personal style. All prints are hand-signed, numbered, titled and dated on the back and include a Certificate of Authenticity. They are enclosed in acid-free tissue and shipped in a strong cardboard tube to any country worldwide. Other sizes are available on request.
