About The Artwork

In my final treasury of peppy cheerful photo stories with Sachi and Little Alex I should like to expound on the matter of the unusual abodes in which Wisdom can be grasped – quite literally as you shall see! It is not necessarily the case that wise thoughts are selectively brewed in lofty classrooms or in the midst of grand conference halls. Oh no! Care to think outside of the box? I am not even asking you to do that – stay in the box for the box is a magical one and there are more compartments in it that meets your untrained eye! What place on this hullaballoo earth must I be referring to, you enquire! The Playground, of course, you silly! Mr Alex, as would be the normal prescription of any young child, cannot stay away from the chaotic chirp of the playground and, as a matter of fact, nor can I! I adore swings in particular and thank goodness there is one behind my own house, there is nothing better on a summer’s day than to watch the setting sun, to swing gently to-and-fro and, to scribble a few poems with my fountain pen in my notebook while children rush about with boundless energy and elderly folk sit quietly on the wooden benches. Paradise tends to be free of charge - all you need are the eyes to recognise that… Back to this story! Oh dear me, I digress so much these days, so very sorry my honourable reader! Well, on this particular day, Alex blasted us with the luscious plan that a spot of ‘Hide-n-Seek’ be played! Naturally, this made photography of his little naughty antics a tad more challenging since he went into stealth mode and my Lumiere, as yet, cannot respond to tasks that, let’s face it, are better suited to military-grade X-Ray vision! However, I was insistent with myself that, despite the gargantuan feat of finding the little sprite would drain most of my energy, I was not prepared to give up! I would acquire a portrait or two and what splendid pictures might they be because they would be caught at precisely the moment when what was hidden (‘Hide’) was finally found (‘Seek’). How did I fare? Well, I made the happy discovery that even in my old age I have enough pints of electrical charge in me to go scurrying off in all directions in search of a nimble-toed imp! Sachi laughed throughout and I know she must have been swept off her feet in disbelief to see an old granny of 36 years of age still prancing about with racy toes and muddy knees as if she had never left the spring chicken age of 8! Age hasn’t quite caught up with me – must be something in the tea…! You ask me once more, what is the wisdom of this final story of my epic winter reunion with friends that most thought I had lost forever? Take a look at Little Alex’s portraits, the chap who sought and did well to hide away from my hawkish sensors. Can you see the ebullient, buoyant and irrepressible joy in his eyes and smile at the precise moment I caught him? Yes, dear friends, just as it is with the cheeky rituals of the Moon so it is with playful children and indeed for any such creature who momentarily goes into hiding – they hide so that at some future time they may rejoice in being found once again by someone special… Photographs & Words: © Masufa Khatun | Mazzy Khatun Photo Stories | Winter Reunion Series | 2015

An ardent visual storyteller, I am a self-taught photographer who continuously seeks to lens-pen and archive fleeting moments of life's eccentricities, to capture flashes of pictorial haikus encountered in my everyday walkabouts and to use the frame as a time capsule by which to illuminate the often neglected richness, splendour and depth of the story of the individual. My trusty partner in all my ventures is a Panasonic Lumix whom everyone in my circle has come to know as 'Lumiere'. Now you do too! Update 2014! Lumiere has a new buddy: a pretty Leica prime lens otherwise known as 'Laika'! The adventure just thickened! | Each Life is the greatest Story ever told... | PHOTOGRAPHS IN THIS PORTFOLIO AND ALL ACCOMPANYING TEXT AND POETRY: © Masufa Khatun | 2014 | 2013 How I Keep Myself Out Of Mischief: Teacher Visual Storyteller Poet Writer Traveller | When The Classroom Seats Are Extra Comfortable: BSc Psychology [Southampton University] Cert.
