Water surfaces have a special property: they reflect part of the light that strikes from above and they are permeable to the light that comes from below. That is why when we look at the water surface of a forest pond we often see two images: the reflection of trees and sky, and the pond floor with its brown leaves. These two images are superimposed. You can always see the lighter part of both. In addition, there is a third layer of the image of the objects floating on the water - leaves, aquatic plants, etc. The series “Imaginary forests” plays with these three levels. The surreal impression is reinforced by the fact that I have turned the pictures upside down. As a result, the mirrored trees appear upright and cannot be seen as mirror images. Our brain interprets them as real trees, leaves seem to float in the air and tree trunks are covered with brown leaves.
