WINTER'S CANVAS Project In the balance between human activity and nature, lies the essence of my photographic exploration, “Winter’s Canvas.” Captivated by the fleeting beauty of tire tracks etched into snow-covered landscapes, I embarked on a visual journey to document these transient marks from a unique perspective – the aerial view. “Winter’s Canvas” encapsulates the interplay of form, texture, and rhythm within the wintry tableau. From above, tire tracks unfold like intricate charcoal sketches, each curve and contour telling a silent tale of movement. As time went on, more and more tracks were made, and the snow began to slowly melt, leading to darker compositions. Each photograph in “Winter’s Canvas” is a testament to the ephemeral nature of beauty and the impermanence of the human presence.

Peter Mendelson (b. 1967) www.mendelsonfineartphotography.com Peter Mendelson is a Connecticut based artist specializing in fine art photography. Initially inspired by the New American Color school of the 1970s and the work of British photographer Martin Parr and Italian photographer Massimo Vitali, for the last 20 years Peter has been documenting everyday cultural artifacts and leisure destinations from Maine to Miami and beyond in his own unique photographic style. Peter further refined his vision through workshops conducted by various photographers, including Magnum photographers Matt Black and Alex Webb, landscape photographer Stephen Johnson, and NYC street photographer Phil Penman. Over time, he developed his particular style, using perspective, light, and color to capture the psychological power of urban and coastal spaces, aiming to inspire viewers to re-imagine the world for themselves. Whether taken during his explorations of Miami Beach, New York City and the Maine coast, or during trips to the east end of Long Island or abroad, his photographs focus on those things that are often overlooked, but which reward their viewers when given a second, deeper look.
