Ships in a Crate
On the streets of Chefchaouen, in the early hours of the morning it is easy to find elderly people walking slowly, making their way with the certainty that a few hours later, the medina will become bustling, it is surely a good option to leave before the flood of people and to be able to walk calmly and with the cadence would ignite in each body. Chefchaouen, the blue pearl, is full of women wearing their striped aprons, often with a towel around their neck or also around their head. Many of them live in the city, others come down from the mountains that flank Chefchaouen, they come from Adouars often by local bus which are actually cargo vans. They go down on market days, and bring the produce of the land grown by them or the family, they usually do not bring large quantities, just to get a few Dirhams and be able to go buy rice or pasta or whatever does not produce their land or at home. They are selfless workers, perhaps women are seen carrying bundles of firewood through the mountain that cover almost their whole body, insinuating only their feet. It's time to pay homage to them. Jbāla: plural of jebli, inhabitant of the mountain; in classical Arabic, jabālī, fem. jabāliya: mountain, from a mountain country. This form is not as common as the simplicity of its morphology would suggest. In Morocco, when we refer to the inhabitants of the mountains, we use the expression: men j-jbel, nas j-jbel, of the mountains, people of the mountains. Carefully printed on Hahnemühle Baryta 325g Fine Art cotton paper, with aluminum backing (Dibond) and intentionally frameless, in a limited and signed edition of 10 units per photograph.
