About The Artwork

How often nowadays we are not paying attention to what is around us. The spam of attention to one another has drastically reduced. At times I feel frustrated when you are with friends and conversations are interrupted by your phone. It has become inevitable to feel a gap and pick at your phone. But what exactly are we filling? Boredom, awkwardness, embarrassment, disagreements? Are we using our phones to do any particular task and, when is a good time to do so? These images came to me while I was observing my friend in the sunset light shining through the windows. She was still, not for posing but for checking her screen. I wish to convey a moment of reflection upon the personal use we do of our phones and how we relate to them in the presence of others. I used the double exposures to highlight the dualism that there is between our thoughts and our actions. One can be physically present, but your mind can be somewhere else.

I was born in Turin in Italy in 1985. Since a young age I have been involved with the arts. First on theatres stages and consequently behind a camera. I was raised in Italy, I have lived in the USA and now I'm currently based in Vienna. My own experience guides my work and, I use it as a starting point to develop my ideas. To me, photography is a way to express my view on society and the social dynamics that influence our relationships. My background is a starting point to focus that follows broader issues that affect me personality, as a way to cathartically evolve throughout my work. My inspiration is drawn by the idea of creating timeless images while living and experiencing life as it is upon us. The first photographer that has shaped my formation, was Mary Ellen Mark and her work on the set of Apocalypse Now. I also admire Sally Mann magnificent work in "Immediate Family" which still resonates with me for the complexity and greatness of this subject. Just to name two of my greatest inspiration in photography that through their body of work have never stop to inspire me. My studies of art history have also contributed to enlarge my knowledge and appreciation of many artist rather than a movement. One is Caravaggio and his sublime use of the light and his depiction of the critical moment of a story depiction.
