Yosemite Black Bear Portrait Photograph

This is a Black Bear. Similar bears live all across the USA and Canada. Since the bears in the Yosemite area do not have a big food supply like some of the bears in the salmon streams of the far north, they do not grow to such big sizes. Because of this, they are not so aggressive as their bigger friends in the north and the Grizzly bears(which were hunted to extinction in California). I was conducting a tour with a group when this young bear approached us with curiosity. We stared at each other from about five feet apart when the bear decided to wonder off. It meant us no harm and since we did not tease it with food, it was well behaved. Please do not leave food unattended in wild areas where these bears roam.
