About the Artist

Rachel Alice Mangaya K

United Kingdom

a London-based multimedia artist with a background in Combined Fine Art and Multimedia, working across painting and photography. My practice explores the unvarnished realities of women's representation and the hidden protective dynamics within traditional African marriages.
Through my work, I investigate the brutal amnesia surrounding homes and domestic spaces fractured by systemic homophobia and the heteronormative expectations embedded within some Indigenous African communities. My practice reflects on the emotional and personal costs of survival while honouring the profound mutual sacrifices individuals make to preserve life, love, dignity, and safety within traditional African cultural contexts.

By weaving together personal narratives and broader social histories, my work challenges silence, questions inherited cultural norms, and creates space for conversations about identity, belonging, resilience, and care.
