About The Artwork

This one of three images of vaginas found in rock - using same subject to create a multicultural representation so that all women can see the beauty of themselves reflected in nature. For 20 thousand years the image of the Vagina was public art and considered sacred until most of it was destroyed in the 17th Century by the Christians. It was considered an evil averting, fertility enhancing image.

Image of Artist. Copyright, SAM. A first born generation in the United States after a family migration from Saskatchewan, Canada. THANK YOU for visiting my work. j. Madison Rink. My work in digital Fine Art Photography continues to be greatly influenced by years of interest and exposure to the extraordinary high-end, antique tribal and Asian art created by the indigenous peoples from around the world. I also have a keen interest in archetypal symbolism as an international language, basic to the human mind, therefore transcending the typical limits of communication. Of great benefit, it naturally contains a vast and ever expanding realm of possibilities in perception. The traditional symbolism associated with Rock|Stone has an extensive and rich history of meaning for most cultures and religions of the world. It therefore seemed natural to choose an ancient and diverse rock landscape to explore the idea of capturing the essence of these indigenous peoples highly compelling work; in this case, images naturally sculpted by the geologic and atmospheric changes in Mother Nature. Baetylic stones for example, denote a place of indwelling divinity and therefore can be prophetic "stones that speak. In all nomadic and hunting tribes such as the Amerindians it is believed that rocks are the bones of Mother Earth. As well Oceanic peoples believe that rock gave birth to all things in the world. Other cultural associations, to name only a few might include fertility; indestructibility; the attainment of perpetual youth as well as unity; and a meeting place for communications between the heavens and the earth.
