Sacred Vessels is a series of photographic imagery I created in-studio by amalgamating various arrangements of unacquainted humans with objects that are personal to me–the result is a series of carefully positioned relationships between imaginary characters and transitory inventions. Pictorial scenes encompass a thematic range grounded in references to memento mori, vanitas, and a self-reflection through the mechanism of human communication. Through the intermediary of modern technology in contrast to a still harkening wilderness, we are shrouded in symbolism, mirrors, and a perplexing convocation involving the meeting of arcane ideas. Social environments, isolated thoughts compartmentalized within an array of evolving vacuums, and the personification of interrelations between human beings in connection to the objects they possess, have all remained connected to my interest throughout the production process, which lasted from 2012-2014.

Jason Miller honors the concept that an artist should select suitable medium based on each idea, rather than committing solely to only one form of media or field. Experimentation is a constant throughout his work. Miller creates photographs, complex imagery, sculptures, paintings, songs, and poetry. Often Miller focuses on generating conceptually driven images in-studio, Memphis, TN, his native city wherein he obtained his Master of Fine Arts Degree from The University of Memphis. As an artist, in the field of New Media Two-Dimensional Art, Miller’s work has been selected for exhibition by prestigious jurors including Alice Gray Stites, Brian Rutenberg, Peter Frank, Meredith Ward, Peter Schjedahl, Fr. Terrence E. Dempsey, Dr. Ellen “Nan” Plummer, Charles Reeve, Beauvais Lyons, Gail Roberts, and Photographer’s Forum Magazine. Miller has received awards from internationally renowned jurors including Chakaia Booker, Don Gregorio, Robert J. Sanchez and Emiko René Lewis-Sanchez, and the American Civil Liberties Union. Other awards include Visual Overture Magazine’s Artist of the Week Award and Oxford American 100 most important artists in the South for the 2012 Visual South Issue, 76. Miller’s Dairy Diary series was featured in Vol. 35 of Seoul Korea’s Photo+ Magazine, and additionally included in Photo Eye Gallery’s Art Photo Index in March of 2013. Miller is the recipient of an image driven art commission for the City of Memphis and has completed commissions for organizations including Le Bonheur Children's Hospital. Most recently sculpture works by Miller have been selected by preeminent jurors for inclusion both in the Arkansas Art Center’s 56th Annual Delta Exhibition and Number Presents: Artists of the South.
