About The Artwork
This is a manipulated image from a photograph I took while I visited the state of Bahia, Brazil. This woman - A Baiana - walked a few miles everyday to work carrying a sack filled with souvenirs she would make to sell to tourists. Seeing her strength I started to imagine her journey, day and day out as time passed. Working in photoshop I duplicated her image 365 times to represent the days of the year. Then, I used transparency to fade her twelve times to represent the months of the year. She started as having full color and gradually fading. Finally, the background is faded in its entirety to represent the opportunities that if she had had, she had to turn down because as a sole provider she couldn't veer off her path.
