Dominique Digeon was born in Paris in 1959. He lives and works near Paris. He passed the Agregation of art (the highest competitive exam for teachers in France) in 1994, was introduced as an artist by Jean Dewasne and won the Pierre Cardin price for painting, attributed by the Beaux-Arts (the French academy of fine art). The inventor of the peeled papers technique, Dominique Digeon has been painting since he was twelve, adding new forms to his work, series after series. From the bounded surfaces (1985) to the Tondos (round canvasses, 2004), along with the Painted Chess Games, the Multiportraits, the Vanits, the Unichromes, the Tirets, the cut out, scratched, torn Papers, the Photos and enriched bookshis series have all been exhibited at the Oudin Art Gallery in Paris since 1987.In the meantime, he has been painting chess games since 1991, and has been using square canvasses since 1989 and round canvasses (Tondos) since 2001.Will the story of William the Conqueror have only interest through the tapestry of Bayeux, the Eiffel Tower or Delaunay ? The Bridge of Gard, the Needle of Etretat...Can one paint such subjects without the risk of being anecdotic? Is it acceptable to quote Vermeer, Vlasquez, Corot...?Dominique DIGEON continues his research towards the refining of feature, limit, and edge in painting. While faithful to renewing, series after series, to escape the Style.Around the title History and Geography, his last work constitutes a mixing of peeled papers process* and the series of the Palissades (1995). Thanks to the rediscovery, the reappearance, lentre deux, the die-superposition...his work goes further and meets structure of painted elements and the material support, in order to question the concept of Beginning. From the erosion of papers to the erosion of the cliff, from architectural cut to the cutting of support, from inseparable volutes of water and air in a marine landscape, to the rolling up of a ring, from the holey fabric to the Eiffel Tower, this structure is full with vacuum...The recent introduction of weaving, already induced by tearing and sewing, Dominique DIGEONs variation around places (Geography) or characters (History), confirms the close implication of making in the subject presence : the Graal quest of a United Theory.Collections :Banque UBP, Fondation La Colas, Fondation Dubos, Bibliothque Kandinsky centre Georges Pompidou et collections particulires.
