About The Artwork

Initially I wanted to title this image “Fragmented Conversations”, as it visually represents the impacts of technology on how people behave alone and in groups. New technologies, cell phones in particular are eroding the social fabric of our interactions and make us feel more and more isolated, even it promised to make us more connected. But then, I thought that we, as species, had lots of challenges in the past and here we are in the 21st Century. So, may be we will find a way for those human moments and learn again to savour the pace of a real, long and uninterrupted conversation. Aquatint etching printed from 3 plates. Edition 10. Abstract representation of a few short re-grouped conversations. The image was produced using aquatint dust over carefully arranged copper scraps and pieces on a big plate, etched 3 times, then cut and reassembled into the original size.

One of the most important laws governing natural systems is The Second Law of Thermodynamics - Entropy. According to the Law of Entropy, any isolated, or closed physical system will proceed spontaneously in the direction of ever increasing disorder, or chaos. However, complex systems at the edge of chaos have the ability to self-organise themselves into a higher order; in other words the system evolves spontaneously into a new mode of existence. The focus of my work is the exploration of the concept of Entropy and ways of representing the balancing point, as one of the most characteristic features of our time. My aim is to reveal a sense of uncertainty and anxiety, the possibility of falling into chaos, and at the same time a way of avoiding it. I like etching technique because it mirrors life's essence - a transformation through both addition and subtraction, creation and destruction. It's a process where meaning emerges from the deliberate act of physically altering and, in some sense, damaging the metal plate by using acids and resists to selectively remove parts of its surface. Through this intentional destruction, textures are etched into the metal and a new visual narrative takes shape transforming a blank surface into a bearer of new images. It's a process where destruction isn’t an end but a means to unveil new meanings. The etching process finds its ultimate expression in the print transferred onto paper. Each impression taken from the etched plate captures a moment - a frozen dialogue between the artist's intentions and the unpredictable nature of the medium.
